My volunteery stay at the Danish Helsinki Committee

I was welcomed very warmly in a host family and in the Danish Helsinki Committee, I had a very nice and interesting time during my voluntary stay and I hope I could use my knowledge as a lawyer as good as possible..

Here I could see the daily work of an organization. They told me the history of Helsinki Committee movement, about their projects and activities, how they work within the governmental structures and other organizations.

There are 8 people in the Danish Helsinki Committee, and also volunteers. Everybody is responsible for different projects and programmes.

Projects of Danish Helsinki Committee:
"Soldiers mothers": the purpose is to improve situation in this question in
Russia, to help NGOs, which are working with this question, and one of the tasks is to exchange experience between mothers groups, NGOs in Denmark and in Russia.

"Lawyers without borders": according this project they send lawyers to different places over the world to monitor human rights situation and to help if it is necessary there.

I was also working with a case about a Russian NGO, which was liquidated by the Russian court, I was in contact with a person from this organization for new information about this case to deliver to the Danish Helsinki Committee monitoring.

14.06.07 I have been at meeting in DanCurchAid office. The meeting was about Helsinki Committee movement, Danish Helsinki Committee work and juvenile delinquency. There were about 20 people from
Russia from different towns and NGOs. Ole Richter (“my Boss”) told also about how NGOs are work in Denmark. The main purpose of Danish Helsinki Committee is to support the civil society. And they think that it is very important to exchange experience between different organizations and countries.

18.06.07 we have been at meeting in "Transparency international" organization (the global coalition against corruption ("TI"). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss work results and to plan the coming activities. I was reading the web-page of this organization (
http://www.transparency.org) This organisation leading the fight against corruption around the world. If you want to know more about it just check it out. The portal contains a variety of instruments and information, some tools are new; others are well known procedures and methods adapted to smaller and medium size businesses (www.business-anti-corruption.com): information about corruption in different areas (business, courts, government...)

20.06.07 we have been in one prisons in Denmark. We had an excursion around the prison and meet with officer and two prisoners ("spokesmen" - as a mediator between prisoners and direction in prison) It was very interesting to see and hear about prisons in
Denmark, and I could see very big differences between Russian and Danish prison system.

Well all in all I had a very interesting and time the people I meet were so wonderful.

Thanks a lot them.
