Field study in Århus

Mirjam, Daria and György in Århus

We arrived at the train station in Århus on Monday in the afternoon and Mette, a former EuroClass student, picked us up. We went strait to the FDF house of the circle nr 2, which is placed in the center. Our first impression of the house was pretty strange. The house was old and very messy. We sat down on the old and broken couch and Mette said that this is our home for two weeks and she also talked about our programm. After we had cleaned a little bit and looked around in the house, we really started to like it. It felt like home and actually the couch was pretty comfortable for sleeping.

Normally we had the program in the evenings, so we could sleep in the mornings as long as we wanted. We bought and made the food ourselves. It was very cool to eat something different for two weeks and you can try to find stuff you know from home. Our normal meals consisted of pasta, sausages, ketchup, sour cucumbers, bread and some other more.

Our main aim was to explore the children and youth organisation FDF and after two weeks we can say that we really know more now. We visited six different FDF meetings. In three places we were playing games with the children, in another place we made pumkin heads and played with fire (and put it out afterwards J)and we also heard one brass band rehearsal. It was very interesting to see these different meetings. We also visited the FDF secretary and we got lot’s of new information about FDF.

During day time we were looking around in Århus. It is a very nice city, we like it. Once we went with Mette to the university and we heard a Danish-Greece lecture, that was pretty funny, we even didn`t understand when they were speaking Greece and when Danish. Some days we were just walking around in the city and also we girls made a little shopping. For the weekend we bought Århus passports. We saw many museums and sightseeings and also we could drive for free by citybuses. We visited ARoS Århus Artmuseum, The Medicine and Sience museum, Botanical garden, Marselisborg palace park, The Old town, Skating Rink and The Women`s museum. It was such a nice time.

In the evenings we made movie evenings and played some card games: Ligretto and Uno and so time just flew by an we arrived back at school on Friday.

We really enjoyed our field study in Århus and we are glad that we could be there.
