The carneval celebration at Silkeborg Højskole
It was fantastically fun at our carneval party. We began with a parade of different creatures and fairytales heroes, which went all around the
school accompanied by drums playing a samba rythmn.
The procession ended up in the assembly hall, and, hmm, what is
a carnival without dancing??? With Spanish temperament pirates
and bugs, Native Americans and gangsters were dancing samba! And
how much power was in every movement!!! (Especially in the super
heroes) maybe people from Brazil wouldn’t recognize samba in our
dancing, but we liked it.
Then all groups had to present their costumes. All participants were
well prepared, their creativity was really impressive. Everybody had
funny and colorful costumes.
But the most interesting part for us (not from Denmark) was waiting
for the traditional carnival game “hit the barrel”. I guess it was one
of the funniest games I have ever seen, you stand in a line waiting until
it’s your turn to hit a barrel. Sounds funny, but people really enjoyed
doing that, especially boys, after some beers.
A lot of sweets fell out of the barrel after a strong strike from Roman, and that meant that he became the king of carnival!
The party continued with a performance by one of our school bands.
Everybody thought that it was great party and we have something to
remember.
